LOVE, HOPE, & LEADERSHIP. THE WORD OF THE DAY IS LOVE.

LOVE, HOPE, & LEADERSHIP. THE WORD OF THE DAY IS LOVE.

What does it feel like to say the words “I love you” … to someone? To yourself? To a child? Yesterday, I talked by Skype with a woman who lives in Africa. She had been reading my book, The 10 TRAITS of Women of Power and Courage and said: “This is amazing!” She said this several times. It helped her understand why the men, in her culture, have a hard time saying “I love you” to their wife, or children.” Why? Because, over history, many men – as hunters – have been *hardwired* to suppress their emotions in order to focus on “the hunt” and “the kill.” The message “I love you” … starts in your heart, and is expressed in your smile and your eyes. RWANDA LEADS THE WORLD IN A RACE TO THE FUTURE

RWANDA LEADS THE WORLD IN A RACE TO THE FUTURE

If you remember the horror movie Hotel Rwanda – then you might be shocked to learn that almost “overnight” the country of Rwanda has now become a 21st Century model of prosperity and opportunity for its citizens. Now referred to as the “Switzerland” of Africa, its female run institutions are the focal point of an international conference hosted by the Zurich-based Women In Parliaments organization on how women’s participation in public life can lead to a peaceful state. Rwanda, under the leadership of President Paul Kagame, now ties the United States as the ninth-easiest country in which to start a business, according to the World Bank’s 2011 Doing Business Survey.   It also ranks number one in the world in terms of the number of women in parliament. In 2012, I named a non-profit organization 56percent.org in honor of the fact that Rwanda led the world with 56% of its members of Parliament, women. Now two years later, still ranking #1 in the world that number has jumped to an astonishing 64% women leaders in Parliament. To learn how one of the poorest countries in the world, making only $10 million a year from sales of coffee and tea – with no gold, diamonds, or oil – could emerge from this violence to become the recipient of an award from the World Bank for rising up the development scale “faster than any country in history,” I turned to Colorado architect, Carl Worthington. In only one year, Worthington says, the African country of Rwanda rose 100 points up the development scale, from a global ranking of 167, to 67. He...
POLITICS AND THE HIGH ENERGY LEADERSHIP OF SANDRA FLUKE

POLITICS AND THE HIGH ENERGY LEADERSHIP OF SANDRA FLUKE

Have you ever noticed that the person who gets other people to follow them, or follow their advice, is the person with the most energy? High energy leadership is the result of one thing: FOCUS. When you focus on a goal, when you say NO to distractions, your energy can then be mobilized to help you achieve your goal. Here is another leadership tip: STAND UP to speak up. The second reason high energy people get others to follow them is because they are usually STANDING UP when they talk to people. Why stand up? *Sitting is the new SMOKING.* Sitting down for long periods of time is linked to obesity and related health issues. Sitting, like smoking cigarettes, carries health risks. Sandra Fluke shows what high energy leadership looks like. Sandra is a rising political star. Her high energy campaign for the California State Legislature shows the power of focus. and the family values that women bring to leadership. What matters most to women is also true of most men: health, education, resilient, sustainable economies, and the eradication of poverty. When we listen to the advice of someone who wants us to follow their advice, we look for someone whose very being resonates with health, vitality, energy and a sense of purpose. They are aligned with their message. They walk their talk. For leaders who are mired in internal health problems, have low energy, or who use fear to mobilize followers, it takes the skilled messaging of “spin” doctors to win hearts, minds, and followers. This is the reason why I developed the slogan and hashtag: #votewomenfirst –...
