SELF CARE Is the NEW Healthcare: How to Fight Back Against the Ebola Virus

SELF CARE Is the NEW Healthcare: How to Fight Back Against the Ebola Virus

The following  is intended to provide health guidelines for those who travel through affected areas, or who live and work in areas of West Africa where the Ebola virus is reportedly now “out of control.” Do you know the difference between these two words? AntiBIOtics. AntiBODIES? If you live in Africa, or travel in high risk areas, knowing the difference can help protect you from the deadly Ebola virus. AntiBIOtics, produced in a medical laboratory, kill bacteria. Antibiotics are useless against virus. Ebola is a virus. Antibodies, produced inside your own body, provide your body’s best defense against the Ebola virus, as well as the MERS virus, and the common flu. Mother Nature gave you the perfect pharmacy inside your own body. When you take these four simple steps to strengthen your own Immune System, you will create the best defense system for fighting back against the Ebola virus, and other viral risks. The key message is this: Your own body can provide the best personal defense against this deadly virus. Unlike bacteria that can be killed by antibiotics, the active fight against viruses such as the deadly Ebola virus, comes from your body’s own immune system. Antibodies created in your own bone marrow, for example, come to your aid to fight viruses, whether Ebola, MERS, or even the flu virus. The antibodies produced by your own body are 100% specific to the target virus. That is, the antibodies that your body produces to target ebola virus are specific to only the ebola virus. They are part of your body’s own immune defense team. Like a well-fortified castle with...
Leadership and Right Action

Leadership and Right Action

Could a single act of conscious by the UK’s senior Foreign Office minister, Lady Sayeeda Warsi, impact the current crisis in Gaza and the Middle East Peace Process? In submitting a letter of resignation to prime minister David Cameron, Lady Warsi calls Britain’s approach and language in dealing with Gaza “morally indefensible.” Her resignation letter, now made public, drives home the point that the UK’s policy on Gaza could become the basis for radicalization that “could have consequences” for the government for years to come. It stands out primarily because it illustrates one of the biggest reasons for the rise of crisis and conflict in the world today: the absence of women leaders in policy making, and at the decision-making table. Ironically, the U.S. already has a policy in place at the State Department that could create a radical shift in defusing conflicts in the Middle East. It requires that in order for a country to receive US aid, it must include women in setting government policy and decision-making. Why are women needed at the decision-making table in hot spots like the Middle East? My research on the hardwired male and female brain that draws upon a dozen fields of science shows that in times of great stress, the hardwired brain rules. Unlike the neuroplastic brain which can be socially conditioned, and grow new brain cells, the hardwired brain, which makes up 80% of the human brain is fixed. In general, it takes 100,000 years or more to change the genetics of this hardwiring. In this context, men are hardwired to fight, or run from conflict. Women, by contrast,...

A Culture of Caring Defines This Fast Growing High Tech Business

A Culture of Caring Defines This Fast Growing High Tech Business

Imagine working in a 65-employee, profit sharing, high tech company where 60% of the employees are women; and the final question before hiring a woman is: “Can you kick-ass?” Last night, I attended an event titled: Inspiring Business Cultures at the fun-oriented offices of Boulder-based SurveyGizmo. The online survey company serves 300,000 customers in 144 counties in marketing and market research. When the  company launched in 2006, by Co-founders Christian Vanek and Scott McDaniel, Christian was only 21. One of their first hires was a 15 year old computer savvy kid, who is now the second most senior employee in the company. By 2011, their startup was ranked the 13th fastest growing software company in the U.S., and offered as a user friendly alternative to their competitor, SurveyMonkey, whose CEO is married to Facebook’s COO and Lean In author, Sheryl Sandberg. I learned this, and a whole lot more at their World Cafe style meet-up facilitated by a woman who described her job as Culture Coach. I met people who held titles like Director of Happiness – the Director of Human Resources who formerly ran HR for a multi-campus hospital, Customer Service Heros – those involved in customer support, and the company’s Onboarding Expert, a friendly tech savvy guy named Griffin, who described the company’s marketing strategy as more focused on word of mouth and blogging survey success tips for customers, not advertising. Employees describe their workplace as a “culture of caring,” where it’s OK to cry when times get stressful, and OK to talk through your frustrations with a manager – a sort of “talk therapy” – that...
